NDA & NA Syllabus

Step 1: NDA Syllabus Overview

  • The Union Public Service Commission conducts the National Defence Academy (NDA) & Naval Academy (NA) exam twice a year.
  • The purpose is to admit candidates to the Indian Navy, Army, and Air Force Wings.
  • The minimum educational qualification required is a 12th class pass in the 10+2 pattern.
  • The examination comprises two stages: a written examination and an interview.

Step 2: Written Examination Syllabus

PAPER-I: MATHEMATICS (Maximum Marks- 300)

  1. ALGEBRA:
    • Concept of set, operations on sets, Venn diagrams.
    • De Morgan laws, Cartesian product, relation, equivalence relation.
    • Complex numbers, binary system, arithmetic, geometric progressions.
  2. MATRICES AND DETERMINANTS:
    • Types of matrices, operations, determinant, adjoint, inverse of a matrix.
    • Applications – Solution of a system of linear equations.
  3. TRIGONOMETRY:
    • Angles and measures, trigonometric ratios, identities, formulas.
    • Applications – Height and distance, properties of triangles.
  4. ANALYTICAL GEOMETRY:
    • Cartesian Coordinate system, equations of lines, circles, parabola, ellipse, hyperbola.
    • Points in three-dimensional space, distance between points, equations of planes and lines.
  5. DIFFERENTIAL CALCULUS:
    • Real-valued function, limits, continuity, derivatives, applications.
    • Second order derivatives, increasing and decreasing functions.
  6. INTEGRAL CALCULUS AND DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS:
    • Integration, standard integrals, definite integrals, areas of plane regions.
    • Differential equations, general and particular solutions.
  7. VECTOR ALGEBRA:
    • Vectors in two and three dimensions, magnitude, direction, addition, scalar multiplication.
    • Vector product or cross product, applications in work and geometry.
  8. STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY:
    • Classification of data, frequency distribution, graphical representation.
    • Probability, random experiments, events, classical and statistical probability.

PAPER-II: GENERAL ABILITY TEST (Maximum Marks-600)

Part ‘A’ – ENGLISH (Maximum Marks 200)

  • Tests candidate’s understanding of English, grammar, vocabulary, comprehension.

Part ‘B’ – GENERAL KNOWLEDGE (Maximum Marks-400)

Section ‘A’ (Physics):

  • Physical properties, laws of motion, heat, light, electricity, magnetism.

Section ‘B’ (Chemistry):

  • Physical and chemical changes, elements, compounds, acids, bases, salts.

Section ‘C’ (General Science):

  • Difference between living and non-living, cells, growth, reproduction, human body.

Section ‘D’ (History, Freedom Movement etc.):

  • Indian history, freedom movement, Indian constitution, Five Year Plans.

Section ‘E’ (Geography):

  • Earth, rocks, weathering, ocean currents, climate, natural regions, regional geography of India.

Section ‘F’ (Current Events):

  • Important events in India and worldwide, prominent personalities.

Step 3: Note on Weightages

  • Part ‘B’ of Paper-II carries maximum marks of 600.
  • Sections ‘A’ to ‘F’ have weightages of approximately 25%, 15%, 10%, 20%, 20%, and 10% respectively.
