SSC Constable Selection Process
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the recruitment for the Constable (Executive) position through a clear selection process. Here’s what you need to know:
Selection Stages
The selection process includes several important steps:
- Computer Based Examination (CBE): This is the first test you’ll face, and it assesses your knowledge and skills.
- Physical Efficiency Test (PET): After passing the CBE, you’ll have to show your physical fitness through various activities like running and jumping.
- Physical Standard Test (PST): In this step, your height, weight, and chest measurements will be checked to ensure you meet the required standards.
- Medical Examination (DME/RME): This involves a detailed health check-up to make sure you are physically fit for the job.
- Document Verification (DV): Here, you need to show all your necessary documents to prove your eligibility for the position.
Minimum Qualifying Marks
To move on to the next stage (PET/PST), you need to score a minimum percentage of marks in the CBE. Here’s the breakdown:
- General Category (UR): 30%
- OBC/EWS: 25%
- All Other Categories: 20%
Bonus Marks for NCC Certificate Holders
If you have an NCC (National Cadet Corps) certificate, you may get extra marks added to your score. Here’s how it works:
- NCC ‘C’ Certificate: +5% of maximum marks
- NCC ‘B’ Certificate: +3% of maximum marks
- NCC ‘A’ Certificate: +2% of maximum marks
Candidates will be shortlisted based on their performance in the CBE. This means the best scores will be chosen for the PET/PST. About 8 times the number of vacancies will be shortlisted, which means if there are 100 jobs, around 800 candidates will get a chance to appear for the next tests.
Shortlisting for Medical Examination
Those who pass the PET/PST will move on to the DME/DV stage. For this stage, about 2 times the number of vacancies will be shortlisted. So, if there are 100 positions, around 200 candidates will qualify for the medical exam.
Document Verification
During the Document Verification stage, you must provide all required certificates and documents. If you claim to have an NCC certificate but can’t show a valid one during verification, you’ll lose any bonus marks you received.
